SYNERGY Vol. 4
Technology Helps
Make the World Safer
This past September, as parts of North Asia – including Hong Kong, southern China, and South Korea – were hit by unprecedented rainfall and ensuing flash floods, the strength and responsiveness of their critical infrastructure, emergency, public safety, and other essential services were put to the test. Motorola Solutions’ mission-critical communications solutions played an important role in the praise-worthy performance of these organizations.
With populations around the world facing increasing numbers of extreme weather events, and having just come out of a global pandemic, there are increasing demands on public safety agencies and other organizations as they work to keep communities safe and running smoothly. According to “Consensus for Change”, a global study recently conducted by Goldsmiths, University of London,
“an overwhelming 88% of citizens globally want to see public safety transformed through the use of advanced technology.”
As we look ahead to 2024, we bring together two seasoned professionals in the field of mission-critical communications to discuss the technological and industry trends.
Dr. Jolly Wong, Policy Fellow at the Centre for Science and Policy (CSAP), University of Cambridge; senior advisor and veteran consultant to critical infrastructure companies throughout North Asia, has been on the forefront of formulating ICT policy, deploying and continually transforming large-scale and complex mission-critical technology programs for public safety and emergency response.
Ms. Jo Tse is Motorola Solutions’ Regional Director for North Asia. Based on their collective decades-long experience, Jo and Jolly identified four key technology trends that will ensure safer, more secure communities:
- Voice is the foundation of mission-critical communications
- Multimedia capabilities improve situational awareness
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) helps first responders quickly see the information that matters
- Technology builds trust through greater effectiveness & transparency
